Attorney Mark Singer is an accomplished trial attorney with years of success and experience in criminal and civil litigation. As a seasoned litigator, Mark has conducted thousands of motion hearings, jury trials and judge trials with over a 90% trial success rate. He is a persuasive and zealous advocate who thrives in the courtroom setting where he leverages his years of experience and legal analytical and investigative skills to your advantage.

Mark is a highly skilled criminal attorney whose experience spans over 35 years. He graduated from Rutgers University, School of Law in 1983 with a J.D; and received a B.A. in Psychology from Montclair State College in 1978.

Mark has spent much of his career in the public sector, protecting families and children. For the past 13 years, he was Senior Deputy Attorney General of the Sexually Violent Predators Unit at the New Jersey Attorney General’s office, where he led all phases of litigation concerning the commitment of sexually violent offenders, which also included supervision of the entire legal team.

Mark’s career began as an Assistant Prosecutor in Burlington County, New Jersey where he handled all phases of prosecution and trial work for various crimes, including homicide, sexual assaults, drug offenses and child abuse. While there he was promoted to Chief of the Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit.  After six years at the prosecutor’s office, Attorney Singer moved into the role of Lead Deputy Attorney General at the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office representing the Division of Youth and Family Services. There, he represented New Jersey’s Child Protective Services Agency in all phases of litigation including child abuse and neglect cases as well as termination of parental rights cases.

Mark was a member of the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse, and served as the Attorney General’s representative on the Governor’s Advisory Council Against Sexual Violence.  He has handled cases in the New Jersey Supreme Court, the appellate division and successfully represented the state of New Jersey in a Federal Class action.

He has taught criminal law subject matter to police and continuing legal education courses to attorneys, as well as participating as a speaker and panel member at various conferences (e.g., American Psychiatric Association, International Association of Forensic Nurses).

Last year, after many years of vacationing and visiting relatives in southern Maine, Mark and his family made the decision to move to the greater Portland area. In addition to enjoying a much needed change in lifestyle, he also wanted a new career challenge which would leverage his depth of prosecutorial experience on behalf of the criminally accused.

In 2019, he joined The Maine Criminal Defense Group as a senior associate attorney, providing a unique insight into the prosecution of criminal cases for the advantage of the Firm’s clients.  Mark’s practice includes serious felony litigation with a specific focus on defending people charged with sex crimes, child pornography crimes, serious crimes of violence, and drug crimes.  Mark’s litigation experience has translated well into helping our clients who’ve been charged with less serious crimes as well, including OUI/DUI charges and misdemeanor Domestic Violence charges.  Mark’s practice area is expanding to include federal criminal defense as well.

Mark lives in southern Maine with his wife and daughter. In his free time, Mark, an avid outdoorsman, enjoys kayaking, skiing, hiking, sailing and spending time with his family.
