Great group of people. Managed to get me a favorable outcome from a very bad situation. I would highly recommend this firm if you have legal troubles. Top notch performance!!
Attorney Christopher D. Guay represents clients in both family law and criminal defense matters. His practice is grounded in a strong, client-centered philosophy built on clear advice, thorough information, and forthright guidance. He prioritizes keeping clients informed and empowered throughout the legal process, while recognizing that they are best positioned to make decisions aligned with their own goals and lives.
A commitment to addressing injustice has been a driving force in his career. He is particularly drawn to representing individuals facing systemic imbalance—whether in criminal cases involving the power of the state or family law matters where fairness and stability are at stake. He finds the work both challenging and deeply rewarding, especially the opportunity to advocate for people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Whether negotiating resolutions or preparing for trial, he approaches each case with strategic focus, sound judgment, and adaptability guided by the client’s goals.
Clients respond positively to this approach, particularly in emotionally charged matters such as protection from abuse (PFA) cases and public defense work—an essential and often overlooked cornerstone of the legal system. Throughout his career, he has received consistent feedback from clients who value having a steady advocate focused on fairness and dignity within systems that can feel overwhelming.
Collegiality and collaboration are central to Attorney Guay’s professional style. He works closely with colleagues, regularly exchanging ideas and perspectives to sharpen his advocacy and ensure clients benefit from the firm’s collective knowledge and experience.
Attorney Guay earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut before pursuing graduate studies in political science, ultimately earning a master’s degree. He later attended the University of Maine School of Law, where he discovered that the practical, client-facing nature of legal work was a far better fit than purely academic research. After law school, he completed a prestigious judicial clerkship, gaining extensive courtroom exposure and firsthand insight into effective advocacy, courtroom demeanor, persuasive presentation and judicial decision-making. The experience was invaluable, providing the opportunity to work closely with well-regarded judges and develop a deeper understanding of how and why cases can be decided based on the facts presented. Attorney Guay’s research background also strengthened his legal writing skills, as he would oftentimes be tasked with drafting analyses and opinions of important legal opinions in a variety of criminal and family law cases.
Outside the office, he values quiet, grounding routines. He enjoys early walks along the beach—often with an audiobook—and is a longtime fan of fantasy and science fiction. He also enjoys cooking, reading, and daily calisthenics to support his health and well-being, all of which help him show up at his best for his clients.

Great group of people. Managed to get me a favorable outcome from a very bad situation. I would highly recommend this firm if you have legal troubles. Top notch performance!!
So thankful I chose this team to represent me. They’re the best, hands down. Nathan Hitchcock proved my innocence not once but TWICE, including a trial by jury. I have a family in law enforcement who told me “Bill Bly and his team are the best. If I would recommend anyone, it would be them.”
I want to start off by saying that I was stuck in the worst situation anybody could be stuck in. I had a life changing case I was going through. Mr. Bly helped me so much and saved my life!!! I mean it when I say that! No other lawyer could have done what he did and got me the outcome he did! I spoke to three other lawyers before I contacted William Bly and they all told me I was going to jail for a very very long time. Mr Bly said differently and was confident in what he told me. If I ever need any legal help ever again which I pray I never do, he will be the first and only person I call.
Highly recommend. Caught an OUI charge while working in Maine as an out-of-state employee. Without details, all odds were stacked against me. I was completely shocked to when jury levied a not guilty.
I couldn’t have asked for a more positive experience! Everyone I spoke with or worked with was incredibly understanding and compassionate. I was dealing with a very difficult matter and Attorney Stone was so kind and caring in a time that was very hard. I have never had such a great experience with an attorney and couldn’t recommend them more! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart!!!!
After being arrested for a second OUI and other serious/felony charges, I came to Bill and his team for help. He took the time to listen to what I had to say, took notes, and explained to me the seriousness of the charges I was facing and possible outcomes. However, despite how hopeless the situation appeared to be, he believed something could be done and, most importantly, he and his team were willing to help. The whole Maine Criminal Defense group was very attentive, meticulous, and organized in their approach. Bill is great at setting the right expectations from the start. He tells the truth and stays connected to reality. It almost reminded me of the Stockdale paradox where you trust that in the end, everything will be ok, but he makes sure that you still understand the reality of your current situation. He spoke clearly, outlined the process, proposed solutions, and was always open to suggestions from me or members of my family. I was impressed with his ability to think on his feet and come up with brilliant plans that somehow yielded results beyond my own expectations (no felony charges). The Maine Criminal Defense team was always available and prompt to answer any questions. They were always cheerful, polite, caring, and involved. They have a sense of purpose, which appears to be to ensure the best possible outcome for their clients. That’s exactly what they’ve delivered in my case. I highly recommend the Maine Criminal Defense team to anyone who has any legal issues and/or has lost hope. You will find that this is one of the best decisions you’ve ever made. Your case will be in good hands!!! Many Thanks to Bill and the entire Maine Criminal Defense team for all your help!
